Agriculture

In gardening and other agricultural practices, magnesium sulfate is used to correct magnesium or sulfur deficiencies in the soil. Magnesium is an essential element in the chlorophyll molecule, and sulfur is another important micronutrient. Magnesium sulfate is most commonly applied to potted plants and to crops that have a high demand for magnesium, such as potatoes, roses, tomatoes, lemon trees, carrots, and peppers.

Compared to other magnesium soil amendments (such as dolomitic lime), the advantage of magnesium sulfate is its high solubility, which not only facilitates soil application but also provides the option of foliar feeding, thereby more effectively meeting the nutritional needs of plants.
